WEEKEND IN ORLANDO

I JUST REALIZED THESE PICTURES ARE UPSIDE DOWN!!!  LOL!!!  I WILL FIX THIS WHEN I HAVE THE TIME!  SORRY!

Jacquie and I went to Orlando this weekend to attend a continuing legal education seminar. To say that it was excruciatingly boring is like saying Dr. Dreamy is "cute".

So here we are (as we tap our fingers on the table and wonder what to do!). We have been here 45 minutes and are already playing games on our cell phones. The Florida Bar is a very smart entity - no internet access in the conference room with about 1000 mateimonial ylawyers. Yes, the fear is always there that someone will drop a bomb. (Whonwas it that said "kill all the lawyers" ?)

With all of 2 seconds of hesitation we decided to leave and go to Hobby Lobby. We bought a few supplies and I made this little scrapbook.

There are a few more pages (12 layouts in total) but I am just posting a few. Much more fun than the seminar!!

I have no idea what I will do with it but its cute.

MY BUCKET LIST

I guess we all have a bucket list - at least a mental one - of things we want to do, places we want to go and things we want to accomplish before we check out of this world.

I, like everyone else, have mine.  Thankfully it's a short list - I've done most of what I ever wanted to do.  I am lucky.

Mary Ann Moss is AWESOME!  I have bought all of her online classes and really love them.  The latest one, TICKET TO VENICE is so inspiring!

Venice is one of the places I want to visit.  Her travel journals are so awesome!  I have decided that I am going to prepare a travel journal like hers for the places I want to visit that are on my bucket list.  Venice, Provence, Tuscany, Tahiti... see, short list!  I will make then and have them ready!!!

I am also going to make one of these awesome journals for MY BUCKET LIST.  I just want to record all the things I want to do and accomplish before I die - let's see how close I can get!!  I also want to use these journals to "say" things to people after I am gone.  How's that for nuts?????

If you do not know Mary Ann Moss or her work do yourself a favor and go visit her BLOG.  For me, her work is stress free and light.  There is no perfection, no straight lines, no sense or reason to her pages.  Gotta love it!

I will post these journals as I go.  SO MANY PROJECTS!!!!  SO LITTLE TIME!!!

BACK PAGES OF TRACY'S LACE JOURNAL

The back pages for this project are to be quite simple.  Just to give it a finished look.  These are the back pages for Tracy's journal (these is the back of the pages I blogged about yesterday).

The page will fold precisely between the two lines of lace so that the fold is sharper.

I could not resist adding just a little detail to the back pages.

So Tracy's Lace pages are DONE!!!  We are only mailing on the 15th of the month so I will hold on to them.

They will be on their way to Eileen by the 15th.

TRACY'S LACE JOURNAL

I have been working on Tracy's Lace Journal.  I have the "front pages" ready!  Following Sox on this project is sort of intimidating but I am happy with these pages and hope that Tracy will like them too!

These pages are folded in half and made signatures in the lace book at the end of the project.  There are only 5 of us and that is great because these pages are so luscious and have so much on them that more than 5 signatures would be too much!!!

This is the open page (remember they are folded in half and made a signature).

This is the right hand page:

This is the left hand page:

All the flowers are hand made.  They were fun to make!  I LOVE Charlottes and added a tiny one to the page.

I had never beaded on fabric before.  I did a lot of beading on this!  It was time consuming, but so much fun.

I really hope that Tracy likes it!!!

SIMPLY GORGEOUS!

Anyone who knows me at all knows that when I get "into" something, I REALLY get INTO it!

My new "in thing", thanks to my beautiful friend Sox, is vintage fabric and lace.  I LOVE IT.  At this point I probably have enough to last me a lifetime but that is besides the point!

I received these yesterday and think they are so beautiful I wanted to share:

Aren't they fabulous!!!?????

A NEW TOY TO PLAY WITH!

Okay so here's the story.  I had never so much as owned or turned on a sewing machine until I took Mary Ann Moss' class - Remains of the Day.  (The most AMAZING and ADDICTIVE class ever!  HIGHLY recommend it.) But I digress....

When I took that class I bought a Brother's sewing machine.  I spent two days trying to thread the damned thing and ended up taking it to a friend to show me!!  I came very close to throwing it away but I really wanted to do the class so....  It is a simple sewing machine with a couple of doo dads but nothing which would stretch your brain too much.

I did a few fabric journals with my Brother and was quite happy with it.  Then I get involved in fabric journals, lace journals..... and I want a machine that has more doo dads!  So I went out and bought a Singer Stylist II.  Very easy to thread, very easy to use, easy to move from table to table.  Very happy!!!  Have done a bunch of things on it and really love this sewing machine.

I had seen a surger during a YouTube video and had discussed it with my buddies in my groups and they all agreed it was a really cool thing but probably difficult to use.

I remember when I was a kid in the early 70s, the garment factories in Miami would send out work to be done in homes.  My grandmother was one of those at home pieceworkers.  She had a regular Singer machine (the industrial kind with the table and the foot lift next to your thigh) and she had what I knew as a "mero" (in spanish).  I had no idea what it was called in English.  Now I know it's a surger.

I bought one today.  No idea how to use it and, frankly, not sure what I can use it for but I had to have it.  I was "saddened" when my buddy Eileen - a woman on whom I can count on ALWAYS for support in my crazy purchases, writes to me and says "I don't know why in the world you would need it."  REALLY?????  Does my wonderful friend not KNOW me after all these years???  The purchase of the surger has absolutely nothing to do with NEED and everything to do with WANT!!!

So, can someone out there tell me why I need this machine and what I can use it for??????

Vintage Ancestors

I am really LOVING this project.   You know how they say you can pick your friends and not your family???  Well we get to pick our family!

I just finished working in Karen's Vintage Ancestors Journal.  It started with Sarah, a beautiful young woman from Tennessee writing love letters to her beau Lawrence who is away at war.

Well, I guess our sweet little Sarah was not that sweet after all!

Lace Journal Pages for Sox!!

Okay, so as I had said previously, I am hooked on this new craft - lace journals.  I am not very good at it yet and find it a bit daunting but I really love it.

My dear friend Sox - the lace journal QUEEN - invited me to join into my very first lace journal project!  Of course as always I have TONS of stuff to use and am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing!  I feel quite overwhelmed and wish I was better at this.  But the only way to get better is to practice right???

These pages are for non other than SOX!!  Pressure is immense!!  LOL!!!

The spread folds in half and there will be other pages to go between them.

This is the two page spread - "the front" -
I may have gone a little over board!!  I usually don't like so much "stuff" on my work but I couldn't seem to stop!  As Sox would say - it's over the top1

This is the front page:
This page has a nice big pocket.

The "back" page:
These are the back pages:
This is an antique doille that was the EXACT size of Sox's journal!  The age stains adds a nice touch I think to the page.  These will just stay this way so that Sox can add what she wants when she gets it back.

Whew!  Okay.... will get better... but for now I'm happy with what I did!
